Codes and abbreviations in use with LUFOIN
Last modification: March, 2015
The numbers at the start of each sighting summary appearing in the register, indicate firstly the regional reference number - (Leicestershire 51. Warwickshire 77). Secondly, the report year is then provided. Finally given is the individual report number. (Final example: 51/12/39).
Evaluation Codes:
The code letters and numbers appearing at the end of each report summary indicate it’s evaluation status within the log. (Example; - PE-1A). Evaluation Codes and abbreviations are as follows:
(IN) = Insufficient Data = Report concerns the observation of aerial phenomena. - However, the provided sighting details are found to contain Insufficient data with which to form any final conclusion/s.
(NL) = Nocturnal light = Report concerns the observation of nocturnal lights or a single light.
(MED) = Medium Definition = Report concerns the observation of aerial or ground phenomena whereby the outline of that phenomena is quite visible but is seen at a distance or is too indistinct to recognise any actual detail.
(HI) = High Definition = Report concerns the observation of aerial or ground phenomena whereby the outline of that phenomena is quite visible and is seen at such a close distance from the observer, that it is easy for them to describe actual detail.
(CE) = Close Encounter = Report concerns the observation of aerial or ground phenomena which is/are viewed at a relative closeness to the witness/es vantage point. (I.e. within an approximate distance of 15 metres or less ).
Explanation Codes:
(PE) = Possible/Probable Explanation = Report concerns the observation of aerial or ground phenomena that after investigation, and/or after taking into consideration known descriptive characteristics concerning similar previously reported phenomena, could most likely be explained in natural, scientific terms.
(DE) = Definite Explanation = Report concerns the observation of aerial or ground phenomena that after investigation, and/or after taking into consideration known descriptive characteristics concerning similar previously reported phenomena, could definitely be explained in natural, scientific terms.
Unknown Phenomena Code:
Code:
(UN) = Unidentified = Report concerns the observation of aerial or ground phenomena that, after thorough investigation, and after taking into consideration known descriptive characteristics concerning similar previously reported phenomena, cannot be explained in natural, scientific terms at the time of report collation.
