GREEN LIGHT PHENOMENON AT DONISTHORPE
January 10th 1980 - 15:50 Hours - Donisthorpe, Ashby-De-La-Zouch, Leicestershire, UK .
A green glowing light at low height was reported rising above Willesley Wood, Ashby De-La-Zouch, Leicestershire by two individual sets of witnesses.
Witness (A) stated:
I was proceeding out of Ashby De- La- Zouch, on the back road to Donisthorpe, and on approaching the brow of a slight incline before the crossroads, I saw a green light rise in front of the of the brow of the hill on the road - it either disappeared or moved at tremendous speed in an upwardly direction - I then thought that it was traffic lights.Witness (B) stated:
My two sons and I were travelling to Donisthorpe having just passed Willesley Cross-roads, when we noticed a brilliant, bluish-green light in the sky, just above the tree-tops. It was to the left of the road, and nothing obscured our field of vision as only a ploughed field was between us and the area of flooded trees above which we saw the light. At first we wondered if we had imagined it, but all decided we saw the same thing, and tried to find a reasonable explanation. The only thing we could think of was possibly an explosion at Oakthorpe Colliery, but when we checked they said that no explosives had been used after 1.30 p.m.BELOW: The Donisthorpe Cross - Roads object, (51/80/04) - Original Witness Drawing.
Report Below concerning Case ref: 51/80/04 and Case ref: 51/80/A, By Regional Investigations Co-ordinator Mr. M. Brown.
After receiving the original report on the January 12th. 1980 from Investigator D. French, concerning the Donisthorpe sighting, I decided to re-create the main witness
s drive in order to determine the approximate position of the encounter. This was done on the 13th. January with Investigators D. French and S. Wilson. We decided on the sighting area and began to thoroughly search the woodland next to the road.
Whilst S. Wilson and I checked the vegetation, D. French decided to check around the few local farms for other witnesses. He soon discovered that a friend of the family, who owned Hill Farm, had confided in them the fact that he had seen something strange about a mile further up the road from the main witness
s sighting. We asked the owner of the farm if she would give our telephone number to her friend and ask him to contact us as soon as possible.Tree Damage
In the meantime, we found some rather interesting damage in Willesley Wood. Four trees in direct alignment all had damage which would seemingly be very hard to attribute to natural causes. The damage took the form of deep slashes or lacerations to the tree trunks at a height of approximately 20
- 25 above the ground. On checking other trees in the area, no other damage could be found. The noted damage was in a 90 degree alignment with the road in the approximate area where the main witness had his encounter.
